Girona has four bridges that cross the Onyar River and each one has its own personality: the Pedra bridge is the oldest, the Peixeteries bridge, is made of iron and was built by Gustaf Eiffel’s company; then come the Sant Agustí and Manuel Gómez bridges.

Girona has a group of buildings of great architectural value: the Cathedral and its impressive 90-step Baroque staircase. Inside the cathedral, the Tapestry of Creation is preserved, a complex iconographic Romanesque fabric from the 11th century. Next to the cathedral is the Girona Museum of Art.

In the same area are the Casa Pastors, the Pia Almoina and the Museum of the History of the City. Nearby you can visit the church of Sant Feliu and the Arab baths.

In the northern area of the old town you can find the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants, one of the sites of the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia and the church of Sant Nicolau.

The wide and low arches are very characteristic of the city of Girona, you can see it in the Rambla and in the Ciutadans street. In the new area you can visit other buildings of great architectural importance: l’Agullana Palace, the Fontana d’Or and the Aligues building; as well as the Museum of Cinema and the Devesa Park.

If you enjoy flowers, you should visit Girona during the month of May when the Girona people celebrate the Girona, temps de flors, the whole city is dressed in flowers and competitions, exhibitions and workshops are held.

The main festival is held at the end of October, we are talking about the Sant Narcís Fairs, an agricultural, commercial and also festive event, with musical performances in the space known as “La Copa”. 

During the months of October, November and December, Girona celebrates the Temporada Alta theatre festival, a reference point in the Catalan cultural scene for its contemporary theatre productions.

Figueres
If you like museums, you must visit Figueres, a small town only 40 kilometres from the centre of Girona, which houses several museums of cultural interest: Dalí Theatre-Museum, designed and conceived by Salvador Dalí himself, the museum exhibits several of his works Galatea of the Spheres, Galarina or Leda atómica. Another must-see is the Toy Museum of Catalonia and the Museu de l’Empordà. You should also go to the Rambla and enjoy its modernist buildings; as well as the oldest ones the Jewish quarter, the castle of San Ferran and the church of Sant Pere.

L’Escala
Only 45 kilometres from the centre of Tarragona is L’Escala, a small fishing village that preserves the ruins of Ampurias, an exceptional Greek and Roman site. During your visit to L’Escala you should visit its old town and the defensive tower of Montgó and its port.

Cadaqués
If you want to find the magic experienced by dozens of artists in this isolated white village, you must visit Cadaqués, located 75 kilometres from the centre of Girona. No doubt you will fall in love with the white houses, and the Santa Maria parish church that stands out over the old town. The mark of modernism was also noticed in Cadaqués, among its buildings are the Rahola houses.
